Hey all,
Jean and I have some news we'd like to share with you all.
Remarkably, in the face of all odds, we're happy to announce that we're expecting a baby.
We're due the first week of November - right now Jean's 14 weeks along; we wanted to get past the riskiest part of the pregnancy, especially considering everything that's happened, before we said anything, but Hank says she's healthy and both she and the baby are doing fine.
We appreciate everyone's support, and both feel incredibly blessed to have such a remarkable extended family.

I'm leaving on some personal family business with my brother for a couple weeks. Ororo is in charge while I'm gone, but if I'm needed for some reason, I've got my phone with me. If there's an emergency, please don't hesitate to call.

Everyone,
As part of our effort to mend fences, Captain America and I have agreed to an X-Men vs. Avengers all-powers baseball game, to be played on February 12, 2012. Players can come from any X-group, so long as you are willing to travel for the game. If you are interested in being on the team, please let me know as soon as possible, and I'll get back to you with the lineup before we play.
Everyone is invited to watch, so long as they are able to do so in the spirit of fellowship and good humor. There will be no ill will, no fighting, etc. with the Avengers. This is about repairing ties, not breaking them. Mostly, let's just have fun, and kicks their Avenger butts, X-Man style.

I don't think it'll come as a surprise to you that part of the agreement was that you would have to sit this one out. If it helps, I asked that Ms. Marvel sit it out, too, in the spirit of fairness. I don't want there to be bad feelings on either side, but if there were going to be some on their side for your playing, than having her show up while you have to sit it out would only piss off our kids, so either you both play, or neither do.
I'm sorry.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to welcome back to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, and to the X-Men, Mr. Robert Drake. A former student here, Bobby is returning to us with a degree in accounting, which will be put to excellent use in our faculty offices. Please give him a warm welcome, and lend him any assistance he might need as he re-settles into the rhythm of school life.
Thank you,
Scott

6:28 pm - X-Servers: To All

Hello everyone,
A recent trip to Genosha was undertaken to find out what's going on, and whether or not Magneto is serious about his recent dissociation with the Brotherhood.
The team was granted full access to the island and after a thorough search, we found nothing questionable going on. For the moment, everything seems to be on the level and so unfortunately, it looks like we're just going to have to wait awhile and keep an eye aimed toward Genosha, just in case. Magneto appears to be sincere, but I think most of us are familiar with his mercurial (no offense, Cessily) changes in attitude.
We were, however, able to confirm that under the former government of Genosha, there was a mutant slavery operation active on the island. This does add some perspective to the situation that will need to be considered.
Any questions, thoughts or additions, feel free to comment here.

2:23 pm - Cyclops' Application
|
Mun Information Name: Kimberlee Hicks Age: 30 E-Mail: BrethlessM@aol.com AIM: BrethlessM Previous RP Experience: http://www.inksome.com/community/essex_academy/4428.html#cutid1 (as Bruce Wayne) Did you read the rules? (If so, tell us what the character limit is!) 12!
Character Information Name: Scott Summers Codename/Tag Name: Cyclops Age/DOB: 34 / 7/13/1976 Affiliation: X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor, X-Terminators, The Twelve Twitter Account: Polyphemus E-Mail Address(es): s.summers@xaviers.edu PB: James Marsden Journal Name: rosecolordvisor
Powers/Abilities: Scott’s main power is his ability to emit energy red beams from his eyes that deliver a concussive force strong enough to penetrate steel plates or solid rock. Over the years, he’s learned how to control these blasts, with the help of a ruby-quartz visor he wears, and displays an incredible amount of skill in spatial geometry.
Scott has an extraordinarily high degree of spatial awareness that enables him to perform bank shots, and bounce the beams off of reflective surfaces with precision. He’s also an expert pilot of fixed-wing aircraft.
After years of training and working in the Professor’s shadow, Scott has emerged as a brilliant strategist and a master tactician, though Nick Fury once said of him that the less time he has to think about it, the more successful he is.
Additionally, Scott is extensively trained in several forms of unarmed combat and martial arts, holding black belts in judo and aikido. His skill is such that he could defeat six men in combat, or hold his own against Wolverine. Weaknesses: Scott occasionally suffers from a nearly crippling sense of self-doubt. This has gotten better as he’s gotten older, but he’s often his biggest critic. He feels an enormous sense of responsibility for those who serve under him and while he understands that loss is a part of the work he does, Scott still feels each one personally.
He is known to lack a sense of humor, and some would add to that, a personality. Uptight, focused on work and not play, Scott’s often a good bucket of cold water over anything resembling fun.
Scott is unable to shut off his optic beams and can only control them with the ruby-quartz visor he wears. He greatly fears losing control of his power and causing massive damage, or possibly killing someone.
History: Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Scott and his younger brother Alex lost their parents when the family’s plane came under attach from a Shi’ar spaceship. Fastening the boys into a parachute, their father Christopher Summers threw his sons to safety, staying aboard with his wife as the plane went down in flames. Scott, the de facto head of his family, received his first experience in leadership, arranging for the two boys to be cared for. Scott spent most of his youth in an orphanage, and when he reached puberty, his optic beams came in. A mental block created by a boy trying to survive tragedy by forgetting, prevents Scott from having control over his ability.
Subjected to a battery of tests by a disguised Mr. Sinister, Scott ran away from the orphanage at the age of sixteen, and soon after was found by Professor Charles Xavier. He became one of the founding members of the Professor’s team of X-men. The Professor even designed the ruby-quartz visor Scott wears that allows him to safely interact with the world.
Scott would gain confidence as an X-Man, leading one team and then helping train the next. He entered a relationship with fellow, X-Man, Jean Grey, and his relationship with her, along with a growing sense of responsibility for his people, would give him a firm foundation on which to build himself up into the kind of leader Xavier and the other X-Men needed him to be. It’s a role he’s not always comfortable with, but Scott is just as dedicated to the salvation of the mutant race as his mentor is.
Working at Xavier’s Academy as a professor as well as trainer for several years now, Scott continues to help the professor offer sanctuary and training to other mutants struggling with their newly emergent abilities, hoping that that someday acceptance of mutants makes the world a safer place till then.
Writing Sample:
It was no secret, even to Scott, that their fearless leader was often accused of having no sense of humor. Scott disagreed. He had a sense of humor; he was usually just too distracted to display it.
What most people didn’t know was that he spent a good portion of his day planning training sessions, lesson plans, group activities, or chore assignments. He was the conflict mediator, either the repairman, or the one who made the decision to call the repairman, and the voice of Xavier Academy to the outside world.
On a larger scale, Scott saw his job as having three parts. First: to fulfill the mission of the school. To take in young mutants, educate, and teach them how to safely manage their unique abilities. The second aspect of his job was administrative. Make sure there was enough food and toilet paper, feminine hygiene products and shaving cream; first aid kits – anything a school their size needed to operate successfully.
The third part of his job, as Scott saw it, was protector. The professor oversaw everything that went on at the Academy, and there were others besides him responsible for the care and well being of the students and younger X-Men. But Scott felt responsible for all of them, and there were very few moments in his day when he wasn’t considering how best to perform this duty.
So if he missed a joke, or didn’t grasp the punch-line, or got irritated by one of Bobby’s practical jokes, it wasn’t that he didn’t have a sense of humor – he just didn’t have time for one.
